It features two major Irish stars amongst its large ensemble cast.
Our TV movie pick for tonight (Saturday, 8 June) is Dunkirk, the 2017 war epic from recent Oscar-winner Christopher Nolan.
As technically spectacular as you can expect from the mind of the writer-director who gave us The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception and Oppenheimer – the blockbuster focuses on the fateful few days where 338,000 Allied soldiers were evacuated from the beaches of Dunkirk in France, during WWII.
The film is noteworthy for presenting the major historical events from three different perspectives – the land, sea and air.
Powered by an ensemble cast, which includes Barry Keoghan, Cillian Murphy, Harry Styles, Jack Lowden, Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance and Tom Hardy, Dunkirk is a heart-pounding thriller from beginning to end thanks to the incredibly tense score by Hans Zimmer and Nolan’s masterful directing.
The brutally intense movie was nominated for eight Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director and went on to win in the Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing and Best Film Editing categories.
Dunkirk is airing on RTÉ One tonight at 9.45pm. It is also available to rent on Apple TV, Google Play, Microsoft, Rakuten TV and the Sky Store.
