The cult show is returning for its final season very soon.
The BBC has unveiled its first look at the ninth and final season of its acclaimed anthology show Inside No. 9.
Created by and often starring Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton (The League of Gentlemen), each 30-minute episode of the Twilight Zone-esque series tells a self-contained story with a new setting and new characters.
While the show may vary in theme and tone between episodes, each entry contains elements of comedy and horror, as well as a plot twist.
Despite earning significant praise throughout its run and attracting a devout cult following, Inside No. 9 perhaps does not have quite the audience of the comparable in format Netflix series Black Mirror.
The trailer for Inside No. 9’s final season
That may change though with its upcoming final season, which BBC has released the following plot synopsis for:
“From the elegance of an Edwardian country house to the grim reality of the last train home, from nosy neighbours to grave robbers, from illicit visits to the toilet to a ticking clock in a sinister escape room, this ninth collection is sure to send the series off with a bang.
“A deadly mixture of classical music, dubious morals and murders at midnight, Shearsmith and Pemberton present six more films to delight and disturb their many fans around the world as they open the door marked No.9 for the final time.”
The final season of the show is also noteworthy as it will commence with Inside No. 9’s 50th episode – which goes by the title ‘Boo to a Goose’.
Given the series’ anthology format, it always attracts an impressive roster of guest stars and its final batch of episodes is no different.
Notable actors due to make an appearance include Adrian Scarborough (Gavin and Stacey), Charlie Cooper (This Country), Eddie Marsan (Back to Black), Hayley Squires (I, Daniel Blake), Joel Fry (Yesterday), Mark Bonnar (Catastrophe), Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones), Siobhan Finneran (Happy Valley), Susan Wokoma (Chewing Gum) and Vinette Robinson (Boiling Point).
Inside No. 9’s final season will premiere at 10pm on Wednesday 8 May on BBC Two.
